Banking

There are several ATM locations within the hospital complex, including in the Main Corridor near the White Building entrance.

  • Though the ATMs accept cards from most banking networks, they are affiliated with Bank of America and Citizen's Bank.
Banks with branches near MGH include:

  • Bank of America: They have lots of branch offices throughout Boston. The closest one to MGH is located in the Charles River Plaza.

    • Exiting from the White, Yawkey or Wang Building, turn left onto Cambridge Street. Walk a block and a half down Cambridge Street, (just past the Holiday Inn), until you come to the Charles River Plaza.

  • Citi: They only have one branch in the vicinity of MGH.

    • Follow the directions above to the Bank of America in the Charles River Plaza. Keep walking down Cambridge Street another 2 blocks; you will see the Citi branch on the opposite side of Cambridge Street; and

  • Sovereign: They have many convenient branch locations in Boston. The easiest one to get to from the hospital is located next to the North Station "T" station.
    • Take the Partners Shuttle from the Jackson Building entrance, heading to the Charlestown Navy Yard. The second stop is the North Station "T" station. The bank is right there, too (on the corner of Canal Street and Causeway Street).

At some point during your stay in Boston you may need obtain stamps or other mailing services from the U.S. Postal Service. There are 2 Post Offices near MGH.

  • If you want to see a postal operation that looks like it's right out of the 1800s, you have to go to the Charles Street Post Office.
    • I don't know where they keep the horses, but the rest of the quaint, Pony Express operation is located one block down Charles Street from the Yawkey Building entrance.

  • A more modern version of a post office is located about a half mile from the hospital.

    • From the Jackson Building entrance, take a "Campus Loop" Partners Shuttle Bus. It leaves every 1/2 hour.
    • Tell the driver that you would like to go to "25 New Chardon Street" ... it's a designated stop on the "Campus Loop" Shuttle route.

    • The shuttle will stop right next to the JFK Post Office.
