Extended Stay Accommodations
There are two extended stay hotels in proximity to MGH. Both are Residence Inns by Marriott.
- One is located on the Charlestown, MA side of Boston's Inner Harbor [Tel: (617) 242-9000];
- The other is in Cambridge, MA near the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology (MIT)
[Tel: (617) 349-0700]. - Both offer a full, daily complimentary breakfast, as well as a light dinner three to four evenings a week.
- If you believe that your medical treatment will require you to be in Boston for more than 90 days consecutively, make sure to notify the hotel in advance so that (1) you can negotiate a discounted, extended stay, hospital rate, and (2) you will not pay room taxes.
- Some hotels will collect the room tax during your stay, and then credit your account on the 91st day.
- If you leave before the 90th day, however, you will not be entitled to a refund of the room tax.
There are also a small number of rooms (22 to be exact) set aside for MGH patients on the 2nd floor of the LaQuinta Hotel in Somerville, MA ["MGH at the Inn," Tel: (617) 724-2027].
- The rooms are partially subsidized by MGH, so they are considerably less expensive than area hotels;
- Since MGH is a not-for-profit institution, no room taxes are charged for patients staying on the MGH floor at the LaQuinta, no matter how long or short your stay.
- The LaQuinta offers a daily complimentary continental breakfast.
The hospital also has 16 affiliated, lower cost units at an apartment building for the elderly, known as the Beacon House on Beacon Hill [19 Myrtle Street, Tel: (617) 726-7679].
In the Fall of 2008, the American Cancer Society's AstraZeneca Hope Lodge Center opened in Boston!
- The Hope Lodge provides free, temporary lodging for out-of-town patients who are receiving outpatient cancer treatment at one of Boston's medical centers.
- They have 40 private rooms, with common areas for meal preparation and dining.
- For further information, go to: Hope.
If you would prefer a short-term furnished rental, MGH is located in the midst of two residential neighborhoods with lots of available rental units.
- There is an apartment complex located on Blossom Street, across from the Cox, Gray and Jackson Building entrances.
- The complex is called Charles River Park (for some unknown reason, it was recently renamed the West End Apartments -- but, everyone in Boston knows the place as Charles River Park).
- They often have short term, furnished apartments available. [Equity Corporate Housing, Tel: (617) 948-9876].
- The front side of MGH (Cambridge Street) faces the historic Beacon Hill neighborhood.
- It is a very quaint part of Boston, with Brownstone-lined, narrow, hilly, cobblestone streets.
- There are short term furnished rentals available throughout the area, but you will probably want to contact an apartment rental agency show you around.
- Here are a couple to get you started: Fred Rose of Marston-Voss Real Estate, 115 Charles Street, Tel: (617) 212-3335, Email Fred; or, Hancock Real Estate, 84 Charles Street, Tel: (617) 227-3300.
